Nanos nonlinear nanoscience
The phenomena of nonlinear dynamics, bifurcations, multistability, chaos, strange attractors, are by no means restricted to any range of scales. In particular, examples of highly complex behavior have been found in microscopic systems, even at atomic and smaller scales, showing clearly that nonlinear dynamics is as important at these scales as it is in the microscopic world. Moreover, on the microscopic level various additional effects enrich the scenario of complex dynamics: The simultaneous presence of nonlinear dynamics, quantum effects, and random fluctuations constitutes new physics to be explored and represents a challenge for basic research. Moreover, it has the potential for highly innovative technological applications.
